Wilma Horton

October 15, 1934 — February 3, 2017

Wilma Pauline Horton of Blue Springs, Missouri formerly of Potosi was born on October 15, 1934 a daughter to the late Joel E. Russell and the late Dollie I. (Wade) Russell.

Wilma went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 3, 2017 at her residence having reached the age of eighty-two years, three months and nineteen days.

Wilma will be missed by all who knew and loved her including her two children: Tammy Fryer and husband Michael of Blue Springs, Missouri; Wesley Horton and wife Diane of Irondale; two brothers: Jim Russell and wife JoAnn of Jacksonville, Florida; Jerry “Hank” Russell and wife Katricia of Potosi; seven grandchildren: David Fryer, Lucas Fryer, Ashley Horton, Dane Horton and wife Ashley, Kyle Horton and wife Megan, Terri Keesee and husband Mike and Jeanna Fryer and husband Josh Henderson; six great grandchildren: Olivia, Jace, Liam, Shane, Joslyn and Gavin; three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Russell of Potosi; Loretta Russell of Potosi and Wanda Russell of Belgrade; also surviving are many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Marvin Horton; five brothers: Joel “Dude” Russell, Lester “Leck” Russell, George “Doc” Russell, Carl Russell and Billy Russell; and two sisters-in-law: Ruth Russell and Marie Russell.

Wilma attended Breton Creek School through the 8th grade. She earned her GED and Associates Degree at Lee College in Tennessee. On November 14, 1960 Wilma was united in Holy Matrimony to Marvin Horton and there were two children born to this union. Shortly after their marriage, Marvin was killed in a tragic car accident when Wilma was only twenty-nine. The focus of the rest of her life was God, family and school. Wilma was a lifelong member of the Arnault Branch Church of God. She was always a strong Christian and an active member of her church. Wilma was a loving mother to Wesley and Tammy and instilled her values into them. Education was very important to Wilma, as well. She was a reading teacher both at Cruise and Potosi schools and loved her job. Wilma was a strong presence in the lives of her grandchildren and encouraged their faith in God as well as their educations. Wilma was always the first person to volunteer if anyone in her family needed help. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

Visitation will be at the DeClue Funeral Home Monday, February 6, 2017 from 5-8 PM and Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 9-11 AM.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11 AM held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Pastor Matt Woods officiating.

Interment and final prayers will be held at the Caeldonia Methodist Cemetery, Caledonia, Missouri. Honoring Wilma by serving as pallbearers will be Michael Fryer, David Fryer, Lucas Fryer, Dane Horton, Kyle Horton and Liam Mason-Moyses.
