Walter Dwayne Dickinson of Festus, Missouri, was born on May 14, 1944 in Hopewell, Missouri, a son to the late Ray Dickinson and Virginia (McMahan) Dickinson. Walter departed this life in the comfort of his home on Sunday, December 8, 2024, having reached the age of 80 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
Those who remain to treasure his memory include his two sons: Floyd Dickinson and Lloyd Dickinson (wife, Brook); six grandchildren: Nathan (Randi) Dickinson, Dane Dickinson, Lynae Dickinson, Marla Dickinson, Zach (Lindsey) Dickinson, and Hannah (Wade) Coleman; three siblings: Don Dickinson, Rebecca Dickinson, and Bobby Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Virginia Dickinson and Rita Dickinson; as well as extended family.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Virginia "Ma Gin" Dickinson; his beloved wife, Linda (Phipps) Dickinson; three siblings: Jane Wilson, Jean Dickinson, and Bill Dickinson; and his sister-in-law, June Dickinson and brother-in-law, Donnie Wilson.
Walter grew up in Mineral Point as one of seven siblings. He was taught at a young age the value of working hard. His career began with AMAX Mining Company where he was employed for 19 years until he retired due to a decline in his health.
Walter loved having fun telling jokes and laughing. In past times, Walter enjoyed squirrel hunting, fishing with his family, riding horses, and picking black berries. Additionally, Walter raised hogs with the help of his sons, Floyd and Lloyd. Walter loved his puppy dog Hailey, whom he spoiled as much as he could.
In the later part of Walter's life, he was provided with such wonderful care graciously given to him by his niece, Doris Gough and his great niece, Alexis Gough. Walter loved his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 11:30 am until the time of his funeral service at 1 pm, held at DeClue Funeral Home. Pastor Matt Woods will be officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
