Virginia Ruth Skaggs

May 17, 1951 — February 26, 2025

Virginia Ruth "Genny" Skaggs, of St. Clair, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on May 17, 1951, in Mineral Point, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of the late Floyd L. Parsons and Fannie Belle (Smith) Parsons.

Genny's work ethic began at a young age when she started working at Hamburger City and later for Kennon’s Cafe as well as many other local restaurants. Her career continued at the Brown Shoe Factory, and she eventually found a long-lasting position at Walmart, from which she ultimately retired.

Beyond her professional life, Genny was known for her remarkable culinary skills. She was a great cook who took immense joy in baking desserts, particularly her famous cakes. The holiday season showcased her talent as she became an incredible host, preparing the entire Christmas meal along with all the fixings, creating cherished memories for her family.

A proud caretaker, Genny devoted her life to helping and caring for others, with a special focus on her husband, Cecil. Her warm heart and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Genny was also a woman of interests; she loved immersing herself in a good book and staying current with the news. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with Cecil to various states, creating lasting memories. Genny had a natural gift for conversation and treasured the opportunities to connect and socialize with anyone.

Genny is survived by her husband, Cecil Skaggs; her son, CJ Skaggs; her sister, Judy Volner, and her husband Rick. She is also remembered fondly by her sisters-in-law, Hazel Skaggs and Kathy Eckhoff, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who held her dear.

Genny was preceded in death by her parents, as well as three siblings: Floyd Parsons Jr., Annabell "Sissy" Huff, and Alicia Sue Riddle. She was also preceded by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Huey and Essie Faye Skaggs, and in-laws Eugene and Margaret Skaggs.
