Virgil Breakfield

January 23, 1944 — July 31, 2016

Virgil Wayne Breakfield of Potosi, Missouri was united with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family who loved so much, having reached the age of seventy two years. He was born on January 23, 1944, in St. Louis, a son to the late Freddie Breakfield and the late Almeda (Hollinsworth) Breakfield. On September 30, 1967, Virgil was united in marriage to Ruth (Hochstatter) Breakfield at the Grassy Hollow Baptist Church.

Virgil is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Breakfield of Potosi; two children: Jason Breakfield of Potosi and Christina Daugherty and husband Greg of Cadet; two grandchildren: Anthony Michael Todd Breakfield and Mallory Rose Daugherty; five brothers: Beaufard Breakfield and wife Betty of Potosi, Russell Breakfield and wife Margaret of Potosi, Darrell Breakfield and wife Baby of Potosi, Montie Breakfield and friend Norma Maxwell of Potosi, David Breakfield and wife Mary of Wyoming; two sisters: Vivian Ledbetter and husband Charles of Leasburg and Mildred Campbell and husband Tom of Leasburg; sister-in-law, Bessie Breakfield of Potosi; also surviving are many friends and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by his grandmother, Hettie Hollinsworth; brother, Eddie Breakfield; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Clara Hochstatter; and sister-in-law, Pam Britton.

Virgil grew up in a big family where there was always his mom’s fried chicken and biscuits on the table. There was always family to help him with every need and a lot of nieces and nephews to pester. He was a lifelong member of the Grassy Hollow Baptist Church and attended every Sunday (morning and evening) and every Wednesday. He loved helping with the RA’s and later became a deacon. This was one of his greatest accomplishments. Virgil loved his family with all his heart. He and Ruthie were married for forty eight years. His pride and joy was his kids and grandkids. He loved watching Anthony and Mallory play ball, he tried to never miss a game. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and wood working. He will be missed by friends and church family, but especially his family.

Visitation for Virgil was held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:30 until 8:00 PM and on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Grassy Hollow Baptist Church, beginning at 9:00 AM. A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday with Rev. Dwight Petete officiating. Honoring Virgil by serving as pallbearers were Ervin Breakfield, Mark Breakfield, Roger Breakfield, Wesley Pritchard, Dustin Sandefur and Teddy Hochsatatter.

Interment and final prayers was held at the Grassy Hollow Cemetery where he received full military honors presented by the United States Army and the Potosi VFW Post 6996. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
