Victoria Gene Fortner of Potosi, Missouri passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at her residence having reached the age of sixty years, eight months, and twenty-six days. She was born on January 15, 1954 a daughter to the late Nancy (Hoy) Fortner.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are sister Christine Heidenreich of Columbia, Missouri; dear friends: Terri Friend of Potosi, Missouri, Steve Willis and wife Janice of Springfield, Missouri, Tim Trunnell of Collinsville, Illinois, and Mike Friend of Warshaw, Missouri; nephew Jeffrey Heidenreich and wife Amy of Columbia, Missouri and a host of relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
In addition to her mother, Victoria is preceded in death by her grandparents Harry and Ruth "Gram" Hoy.
Victoria G. Fortner, RH (AHG) (PeatohahNape Tamsah) of Shawnee and Scot /Irish descent, was trained in allopathic and Traditional Indigenous medicine. She worked in the American medical field for 15 years. Ms. Fortner was the owner of Shawnee Moon Herbaceuticals and served on the board of the American Herbalist Guild, Inside Dharma, Living Insights and Earth Circle. She was listed in the International Who's Who in Medicine, Second Edition (1995) and acted as Herbal Consultant to the Missouri Botanical Gardens / Shaw Arboretum on their Osage Garden project, and a division of Regis International. Her artwork is part of the permanent collection in the National Museum of the American Indian / Smithsonian, Wash, DC. She also volunteered in the Missouri prison system as a spiritual advisor for Native American inmates. Victoria was an integral part of many spiritual groups including Sundance and Star Dance. She was a ceremonial leader and teacher for over four decades and her many students continue to share her knowledge across the globe. She lives in our hearts and prayers as we continue in our spiritual lives.
A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Memorials should be made to Living Insights, Inside Dharma, Earth Circle, or any environmental nonprofit in honor of Victoria.
Funeral arrangements were respectfully cared for by the DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
