Verla Jean Smith of Caledonia, Missouri departed this life on December 1, 2009 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital having reached the age of seventy five years, ten months and two days. She was born on January 29, 1934 at Black, Missouri a daughter to the late Dolphas Stricklin and Hazel (Barton) Stricklin.
On December 28, 1968, Verla was united in marriage to Jim Smith and they shared forty years together.
In addition to her parents, Verla was preceded in death by a sister Brenda Barton and a step son Hunter Smith.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband Jim Smith of Caledonia; two daughters Connie Walton of Farmington; Patricia Lawson of California, Missouri; two sons Danny Johnson and wife Vivian of Caledonia; Johnny Johnson of New Mexico; three step daughters Glenda Coleman and husband Lynn of Potosi, Janet Barron of Desoto, Betty Giles and husband Ted of Oakville; sister Mary Strange and husband Carl of Park Hills; brother Billy Joe Martin of Bonne Terre; seven grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 2 PM at the DeClue Family Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Tim Gibson, Isaac Barron, Jared Walton, James Smith, Joe Boyer and Mike Walton.
Interment and final prayers were held at Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
