She was born on February 23, 1919 in Potosi, Missouri, a daughter of the late Thomas Edward Sparks and Adeline Adele (Trokey) Sparks. She gave her life to God in August, 1934 at the Breton Creek Baptist Church, Potosi.
She was united in marriage to Leonard Link on November 23, 1943 in Fletcher, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Leonard preceded her in death on August 6, 1973. They shared thirty years of marital happiness together. While Leonard was stationed in California, in the Navy, Vergelene moved out there and got a job so that she could be with him. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; a beloved aunt, sister, cousin and friend.
In addition to her husband and parents, Vergelene was preceded in death by a brother Russell Edward Sparks, a sister Ruby Stephan and two brothers-in-law, Norman Stephan and Lawrence Link.
Vergelene was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Potosi where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Bible School Teacher. She touched many children?s lives along the way by making sure they had a ride to Church and witnessing to them by her actions. She always found the good in other people and would offer a helping hand to those in need.
She was known to her friends and family as ?Sis?. She loved her doll collection and she loved to go with friends and family - it didn?t matter where, just as long as she was with her loved ones. She would spend hours watching the birds outside her kitchen window as they were eating the seed that she had put there for them. She loved God, she loved life, she loved her family and she loved others. She will truly be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
