Thomas Anthony Compton of Shirley, Missouri, was born on April 22, 1971 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son to Mrs. Norma R. (Harmon) Compton and Mr. Harvey J. Compton. Tony departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Barnes Jewish Hospital at the age of 51.
Those who remain to treasure his memory include his loving mother, Norma Compton; brother, Jerry Compton; two nephews: Jeremy Compton (wife, Sarah) and Matthew Compton. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Compton and sister-in-law, Terri Compton.
Tony received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Religion from William Jewell Collage. Also received a Master of Divinity Degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Tony worked at the Independence School District as a substitute teacher for approximately four years in the special education department. In addition, Tony also served as youth pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church while residing in Independence, Missouri. Tony taught middle school math for nine years in Kansas City. After returning to Potosi, he worked as a substitute teacher for a short time for Potosi School District. Tony had a passion for youth and education. He was a serious collector of vintage comic books as well as action figures of all kinds but particularly Superman. Tony was intrigued with his family’s genealogy. He will be deeply missed by his family.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 12 PM until the time of his Memorial Service at 2 PM, held at DeClue Memorial Chapel with Pastor John Canterberry officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Redbud Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi, MO.
