Sloman Eye

March 7, 1919 — December 18, 2009

Sloman John Eye of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on December 18, 2009 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety years, nine months and eleven days. He was born on March 7, 1919 at Shirley, Missouri a son to the late John L. Eye and Sarah Jane (Kathcart) Eye.

Sloman was a long time member of the Potosi First Baptist Church and there he served as a deacon for over fifty years. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for thirty four years as a carman. He loved to vacation and he visited forty two states.

In addition to his parents, Sloman was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Eye, three brothers Donald Eye, Oval Eye, Elza Eye; sister Doris Fenstermaker; five brother in laws Harry Kendall, Bill Wilkerson, Bob Vaughn, George Fenstermaker, Floyd Lollar; three sister in laws Violet Eye, Darlene Eye and Opal Eye.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are three sons John Eye and wife Catherine of Mineral Point; Elder James Eye of Potosi; Elder Paul Eye and wife Faye of Potosi; sister in law Lois Todd of Potosi; three brothers Samuel Eye and wife Sarah of Potosi; Wendell Eye of Potosi; Michael Eye and wife Bonnie of Potosi; four sisters Mildred Reed and husband Melvin of Potosi; Lela Kendall of Festus; Grace Vaughn of Florida; Norma Jane Wilkerson and husband Jack of Potosi; grandchildren Bradley Eye and wife Anna, Andrew Eye, Hillary Eye, Sue Ellen Legan and husband Thomas, Christy Jefferies and husband Brandon, Nathan Eye, Melody Eye, Matthew Eye, David Eye, Philip Eye; great grandchildren Ashley Eye, Ethan Eye, Chole Eye, Charles Legan, Ruban Eye, Garrett Eye, Lilly Eye, Jonathan Eye, Liby Legan; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Reed officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bradley Eye, Andrew Eye, James Eye, Nathan Eye, Matthew Eye, David Eye and Paul Eye.

Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dale Blount officiating. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
