Shirley Juanita Eye of Potosi, Missouri, was born on June 9, 1944 in Lemay, Missouri, a daughter of the late Albert and Noma (Veninga) Turnbough. Shirley went to her heavenly home that she longed for on February 20, 2024, having reached the age of 79.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Cleo Eye; daughter, Christina Cooley (husband, Jeff); grandchildren: Austin Cooley, Brianna Hauser (husband, Dean), Ashley Brown (husband, Kevin); six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her infant son, William "Sonny" Boswell, Jr.
Cleo and Shirley couldn’t wait to get married, so they quickly rushed off to the courthouse in East St Louis and got married on January 6, 1967. They were excited to go on their honeymoon to Lake of the Ozarks but the bad weather forced them to turn around. But, that didn’t stop them as they spent 57 wonderful years together.
Shirley loved Elvis and enjoyed the animated version of the movie, The Beauty and the Beast, watching it nonstop, so much it became a favorite movie of her grand kids. She was very protective over her family, loved them hard, was supportive of them, but was also very strict. If she didn't agree with you, she wouldn't have an issue with making her opinion known. She even required her grandchildren to call her "Mam" because she thought grandma sounded too old.
She never wanted you to think that you weren’t loved, even if you made a mistake. So, whenever she loved you, she loved you with all of her heart. If you knew her, you might as well as count yourself extremely blessed, because you had a Christian prayer warrior on your side. As a godly Christian woman, she knew how to pray and understood how powerful prayer was. She was always smiling and it didn't matter when or where, or what she was going through—she was an optimist. She always loved to say, "Thank you, Lord" or "That’s an answered prayer".
