Shirley Courtway

Shirley Joyce Courtway of Park Hills, Missouri, was born on May 11, 1947 in St Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Granville Macley Miller and Martha Marie (Stringer) Miller. Shirley passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, having reached the age of 76.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her children: Angela Brooks, Jeff Pickett (Tammy), Timothy Pickett (Fiance, Mandy), Joseph Sansoucie, Malisa Minx (Leroy), Travis Courtway, and Shelby Courtway Jr. (Angela); grandchildren: Robyn, Bethany, Cody, Alan, Alexis, Aliyah, Allan, Shelby, Dani, Taylor, Trenton, Lane, Brittany, and Joseph Jr.; siblings: Cathy Blount (Johnny), and Glen Clark (Brenda). Also surviving are great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Miller; father and stepmother, Granville and Helen Miller; two husbands: Blaine Pickett and Shelby Courtway Sr.; siblings: Butchy, James Martin, and Eugene Steif; very special uncle, Arthur Stringer; and many other dear relatives.

Shirley loved her grand kids very much. She also enjoyed being a nurse, reading, murder mysteries, and throwing Halloween parties. She was a people person and making friends came easy to her. When she wanted to be, she was a good cook—Mississippi mud cake and biscuits were her specialty. Even though she loved all animals and feeding them, her dog, Zeak, was her pride and joy.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 2 p.m., officiated by Elder Mike Jarvis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
