Shirley May Cordingly, a beloved wife, mom, and gram, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Mercy Hospital South, surround by her family, having reached the age of 83. She was born in Potosi, Missouri on August 16, 1940, a daughter of the late Ernest Gibson and Ella (Mercer) Gibson.
On November 24, 1975, Shirley was united in marriage to Kenneth Cordingly and they shared over twenty-nine years of love and devotion. Kenneth preceded her in passing on June 13, 2005.
Those who remain to treasure her memory include her three sons: Dennis Marler (Crystal), Duane Marler (Terri), Danny Marler; five step children: Larry Cordingly, Mike Cordingly, David Cordingly (Andrea), Cheri Wright, Laura Mattes (Anthony); Shirley also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored; two brothers: Bobby Gibson (wife, Norma), Mike Gibson; and sister-in-law, Joan Gibson; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to Shirley’s parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her step son, Danny Cordingly; step daughter, Vicki Anaclade; and four siblings: Jerry Gibson, Norman Gibson, Bernice Gibson, and Ruth Morgan.
Those that knew Shirley, knew she was a collector of many things. A few of her favorite items that she collected through the years included: salt and pepper shakers, owls, dolls, and beautiful blown glass. Shirley was a decorator and made sure her house was the most festive place for every holiday. She enjoyed yard sailing, feeding the hummingbirds and tending to her flower beds. Above all, Shirley loved and cherished her family. Family dinners, spending time with her grandkids, and playing board games were her favorite moments. So much laughter filled the room and memories were made. Her family will forever remember her bright smile and carry her legacy of love.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11:15 a.m. held at New Diggins Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Strickland will be officiating her service. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
