Samuel "Sam" Wright

March 12, 1943 — February 27, 2017

Samuel Benjamin Wright of Belgrade, Missouri was born on March 12, 1943 in Festus, Missouri a son to the late Betty Wright. On July 8, 1972, Sam was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Sue Stricklin in Belgrade and they shared forty-four years together. To this union their daughter was born in 1975.

Sam went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family, having reached the age of seventy-three years, eleven months and fifteen days.

Sam will be missed by all those who knew and loved him so much including his beloved wife, Sue Wright of Belgrade; daughter Linda Haworth and husband Bob of Belgrade; two grandchildren: Ethan and Emily Haworth of Belgrade; Goddaughter Sabrina (Bone) Haverstick of Belleview, Missouri; Godson Scottie Bone of Caledonia; adopted daughter Cheryl Hanshew of Potosi; also surviving are nieces, nephews, a host of church family and dear friends.

In addition to his mother, Sam was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Lloyd and Janie Stricklin.

Sam loved the Lord with all of his heart and soul. Everyone he came in contact with was sure to hear a Bible scripture or song. He loved his wife for forty-four years, his only child, and his two grandbabies more than anything in this world. Ethan and Emily were everything to him and he gave them anything they wanted.

He loved going to church and singing. He never really stayed in one church for long because he liked to visit everywhere. Homecomings, singings, special events, you count on it that Sam would be there. He was well known for his song “Secret Place” and would generally be requested to sing it when he visited different churches. When he became unable to attend church anymore because of physical reasons, he enjoyed watching it on TV. Jimmy Swaggart and Creflo Dollar were his favorites.

Sam graduated from Festus High School in 1962 and went to work at General Motors in 1965 until his retirement in 1991. Sam enjoyed riding his three-wheeler, motorcycle, spending time outdoors and just piddling. He loved collecting many treasures that he and Sue would find at the thrift stores.

Visitation will be at the DeClue Funeral Home Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, March 3, from 9-11 a.m.

A Homegoing Service will be held at the DeClue Memorial Chapel on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dan Hartley and Rev. Dale Stringer officiating.

Honoring Sam by serving as pallbearers will be Bob Haworth, Ethan Haworth, Rick Wright, Bob Mills, Skyler DeClue, Don DeClue and Laverne Stricklin. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Scottie Bone, Leon Stricklin, David DeClue, Gary Wright, Mark Casteel and Derek DeClue.

Interment and final prayers will be held at the Wright Family Cemetery, Belgrade, Missouri. DeClue Funeral Home was privileged to care for the funeral arrangements for Sam during this time of Remembrance.
