Sagan (Hartel) Pluth

October 31, 1987 — April 16, 2022

Sagan Tyne (Hartel) Pluth of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Potosi, was born on October 31, 1987, in Hendersonville, NC, a daughter to William “Bill” Hartel and Kelly (Breuel) Hartel. Sagan passed away on April 16, 2022, having reached the age of thirty-four years, five months, and sixteen days.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her husband, Dustin Pluth; daughter, Danielle Pluth; parents: Bill and Kelly Hartel; siblings: Craig Hartel, Kari Hartel (Brandon Chazelle), and John Hartel (wife, Handley); nephews: Brayden and Austin Hartel; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Dean and Katie Pluth; brother-in-law, Dylan Pluth; and fur babies: Tiggy and Annie. Sagan is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sagan was preceded in death by her grandparents: Jerry and Dee Breuel, William “Bill” and Pat Hartel, and Maw Maw Anita Pluth.

Sagan was such an incredibly loving, giving, caring person. Sagan always wanted to take care of others, whether as a friend, sister, daughter, mother, wife, aunt, or as a nurse. Sagan embodied love. Family was absolutely everything to Sagan.

Sagan absolutely loved being a mother to sweet Danielle. Everything Sagan did was for her little Mink. Sagan made sure she showed Danielle unconditional love every single day. Sagan loved Dustin with all her heart. For Sagan and Dustin, it was love at first sight. Sagan cherished building a life with Dustin and Danielle, spending plenty of fun weekends at the lake. Being on the water with her family fed her soul. Sagan also loved being a mom to her fur babies, Tiggy and Annie. Her love of all animals was undeniable, a trait she got from her dad.

Sagan cherished her childhood, filled with many hours spent outdoors exploring with her siblings and friends. Catching tadpoles in the creek, climbing trees (and sometimes falling out of them and breaking her arm), riding bikes to the local library, rollerblading around the neighborhood, swimming in the pool, riding horses, and hanging out with her friends--all these activities created lasting vivid memories of a simpler time.

Sagan loved each and every one of her friends more than words can express. Most of Sagan’s friends were more like family--that is how deeply she loved them. Sagan always tried to make sure each one of them felt that that person was the most important person in the world, even though she had hundreds of loving friends who will never forget her.

Sagan had a great love for music, from all genres. One of her absolute favorite things to do was attend concerts and experience the magic that is live music. Music was one of the things that she and Dustin first bonded over, and they continued to share a passion for music ever since they met.

Much like any Hartel, Sagan loved the way food could bring people together. Sagan had many fond memories of her grandma Pat’s cooking, and Sagan loved to prepare a big family meal on the farm on Sundays, with grandma’s mashed potatoes always being the focal point of the meal. Sagan loved her sweets and was obsessed with potatoes in any and all forms.

Sagan loved going on “adventures” with Dustin and Danielle. Traveling with her family renewed her spirit and brought them all so much lasting joy. Annual excursions to Vegas were something Sagan looked forward to every year as she grew excited about which fancy hotel they would book and which unique restaurants they would visit. However, the lights in Vegas did not shine nearly as bright as the light in Sagan’s eyes. Sagan’s had a light that was ever-present and lit up a room. Sagan’s beautiful light can never be extinguished.
