Ruth Thurmond

Ruth Edna Thurmond of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on October 24, 2007 at Camelot Nursing Home, Farmington, Missouri, having reached the age of 86 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was born at Potosi, Missouri on November 4, 1920, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Thurmond and Cora Mae Hogan Thurmond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson; three sisters, Nellie Masson, Mae Sloss, Leona Withouse; seven brothers, Earl Thurmond, William Thurmond, Odie Thurmond, Ben Thurmond, Oscar Thurmond, Roy Thurmond, Harry Thurmond; and daughter-in-law, Zelda Thurmond. While living, Ruth was the fifth generation member of her family.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life include her son, Donald Thurmond and wife, Donna of Park Hills, Missouri; four grandchildren, Darrell Thurmond and wife Connie, Donna Conway and husband Tim, Rodney Dale Thurmond and wife Michelle, Rebecca Beckett; fourteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 2 PM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Rev. Joseph ?Bud? Lawson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Short, Kyle Pinkley, Roger Griggs, Blake Thurmond, Eddie Joe Thurmond and Wayne King.

Interment and final prayers were held at New Masonic Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
