Robert Reed

Robert Eugene Reed, also known by family and friends as Bob, departed this life on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at his home, having reached the age of 78 years and 29 days. Bob was born on October 4, 1945 at Anthony’s Mill, Missouri, a son of the late Elmer Eugene Reed and Wilma Lee (Bouse) Reed.

Bob was a graduate of Potosi High School class of 1963. After graduating high school, Bob worked for a short time at Reed Sawmill until joining the military in 1965. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. While in the military, Bob received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and the Sharp Shooter Badge with a Rifle Bar. When Bob returned from the service, he married Carol Nelson on July 1, 1967. They shared fifty-six years and four months together. Throughout Bob's career, he worked for Reed's Chevrolet, served as Washington County Commissioner, and served at the Washington County License Bureau. Bob also served as a Washington Deputy and a police officer for the City of Potosi.

Bob was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Washington County Democrat Club, and Potosi Elks Lodge #2218. Bob served as the Exulted Ruler at the Elks for seven years. He was very active at the Elks Lodge and developed many great friendships through the years. In past times, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing and most of all, spending time with his family.

Those who remain to treasure Bob’s memory include his loving and devoted wife, Carol Reed; daughter, Michelle Reed; son, Robert "Rob1' Reed II; three grandsons: Eli Reed, Gavin Reed, and Hayden Gaston; sister, Patti Reed-Cook; in-laws: Debbie and Barry Robinson, and Rhonda Reed. also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to Bob’s parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Reed.

There will be a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 4 to 5 pm at Potosi Elks Lodge. A Memorial Service will begin at 5 pm, consisting of Military Honors presented by the United States Army and VFW Post 6996, followed by an Elks Service and memorial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elks Backpack Program. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service. DeClue Funeral Home was honored to have served the family of Mr. Bob Reed.
