Robert Nickelson

January 25, 1921 — January 12, 2012

Robert Holen Nickelson of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on January 12, 2012 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital having reached the age of ninety years, eleven months and eighteen days. He was born on January 20, 1921 at Richwoods, Missouri a son to the late Andrew Nickelson and Florence (Osia-Ingle) Nickelson.

Bob served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Bronze Star Medals and the Good Conduct Medal.

Bob was a member of the Potosi United Methodist Church; Potosi Lions Club; past member of the Potosi R-III School Board; Potosi Elks and was the last surviving member of the Original Washington County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mary of sixty six years; daughter Carol Sue Nickelson; eight brothers Joe Nickelson, Richard Nickelson, C. Nickelson, Harty Nickelson, Clyde Nickelson, Carl Nickelson, Les Nickelson, Jay Nickelson; sister Ione Yarbrough and two infant sisters.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are three daughters Phyllis (Bill) Fryman of Steelville; Sharon (Ronnie) Fryman of Potosi; Gail (Ralph) Rulo of Castle Rock, Colorado; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 1 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton and Lance Hale officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Portell, Jeff Portell, Dean Portell, Pug Fryman, Jim Fryman and Rolla Griggs.

Interment and final prayers were held at the New Masonic Cemetery. Full Military Honors were provided consisting of a gun solute, taps, flag folding and presentation by the United States Army and local VFW Post #6996. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
