Robert Maxwell

June 16, 1930 — March 9, 2018

Robert E. "Bob" Maxwell of Potosi, Missouri passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the age of 87. Bob was born on June 16, 1930 in Potosi, a son to the late Perry T. Maxwell and the late Helen (Strayer) Maxwell. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his infant brother, Perry T. Maxwell, Jr. On October 13, 1973, Bob was united in marriage to Patsy Laws and they shared forty-four years together.

Bob will be missed by all who knew and loved him including his beloved wife, Pat Maxwell; five children: Carol Weatherly and Mitch, Gary Maxwell and Lisa, Jeanne Harmon and Jim, Joan Simpkins and Michael, and Matthew Maxwell; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; special relatives: Verda “Honey” Maxwell and Ralph Maxwell; and many dear friends and business patrons.

Bob was the third-generation owner and operator of Maxwell Hardware which was established in 1905. Bob had great knowledge on many different things when his customers would have questions on how to repair or fix something. He enjoyed visiting with each one who stopped by. He was a member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post 265. In addition, Bob was one of the original board members for the Potosi Fire Protection District which was established on May 15, 1973. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1954. He was a pillar in Washington County and a proud American.

A Funeral Service was held Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton officiating. Musical Selection was “Amazing Grace” by Bob Sifford. Concluding Services were held at the Maxwell Hardware Store where Full Military Honors was presented by the United States Navy, the VFW Post 6996 and the American Legion Post 265 at approximately 12 Noon. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Simpkins, Ian Simpkins, Jacob Babbitt, Mitch Weatherly, Jim Harmon, and Eric Harmon.
Funeral Arrangements were respectfully cared for by the DeClue Funeral Home.
