Rev. Kenneth Earl Yates, affectionately known as Kenny, was born on January 24, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this earthly life and went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, February 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, music, and faith in God.
Kenny’s journey in ministry began at the tender age of 19, a calling he embraced with all his heart. His remarkable career saw him serve in both the Church of God and Assemblies of God, where he became a true general in the faith. After graduating from high school, Kenny attended Northwest Bible College, where his musical talents flourished while performing with the college choir. His passion for music was evident as he played his guitar and sang heartfelt praises, which he carried with him throughout his life. Kenny treasured the opportunity to travel across the United States, spreading joy through his music and ministry. He loved reading God's word and preaching the gospel. Kenny ministered as an Evangelist traveling from state to state, often setting up his big tent and hosting Tent Revivals. He also pastored a few different churches throughout Arkansas and Missouri. His anointed life and Calling has touched thousands over the years.
Kenny was not only a devoted minister but also a cherished family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey Yates, and their three children: Christian Corbett and her husband, Dane; Matthew Yates and his wife, Amie; and Candace Vandergraph and her husband, Josh. Proudly, he watched his nine grandchildren grow—Malachi, Loryn, Paige, Cash, Daly, Elijah, Josiah, Aubrey, and Judah—making every effort to attend their sporting events and cheering them on as one of their biggest fans. Kenny is also survived by his two siblings, Erma Hooker and her husband, Ralph; and Shelia Kellett and her husband, Jim; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, Fredrick Robert Yates and Juanita Mae (Link) Yates.
Kenny’s kindhearted personality was a beacon of light to all who knew him. Known for his ability to listen and offer Godly wisdom, he had a unique gift for making others feel valued and understood. His warm spirit and fun nature were infectious; he always tried his best to put a smile on the faces of those around him. Beyond his devotion to family and faith, he had many hobbies that brought him joy. From playing the piano and guitar to collecting trains, attending Cardinals baseball games, and enjoying camping trips with his family at K-Bridge on Black River. Ken had the honor of founding a radio ministry called Sounds of Praise, where his dedication to gospel music shined brightly. He was a treasured member of the Golden Gate Trio, showcasing both his musical talents and his love for sharing faith through song.
Ken's goal was "to do whatsoever our hands find to do, do it with all your might," which he did daily. He gave his all with enthusiasm whether big or small. One of his favorite sayings was, "without a test, there is no testimony," and what a testimony he was. Kenny was a man of great Faith, who believed "all things were possible with God," and he remained faithful to the very end!
As we gather to honor the remarkable life of Rev. Kenneth Yates, we remember the joy he brought to so many, his unwavering faith, and the music that will forever echo in our hearts. His legacy will continue to inspire all of us to live our lives with kindness and compassion, and carrying forward the love of Christ he so freely shared.
