Raymond Cantrell

February 25, 1938 — September 2, 2016

Raymond Eli Cantrell of Mineral Point, Missouri departed this life on September 2, 2016 at his residence having reached the age of seventy eight years. He was born on February 25, 1938, on the old McGregor Farm, a son to the late John Samuel Cantrell and the late Rosie Alice (Cain) Cantrell.

On July 23, 1960 was united in marriage to Wilma Ruth Parmley in Potosi, Missouri and they shared fifty six years together. Raymond was a Sergeant in the United States Army and served from May 10, 1956 until May 31, 1962. During that time, he was stationed in Germany. He had many stories to tell of his Army days. He used to tell of when he used to work on tanks, was a boxer, and stories of a young Elvis Presley station nearby. Raymond received Certification of Military Service Honorable Release / Specialist Fourth Class. He was also a Certified Scuba Diver, Licensed Private Pilot, and barber. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, buying and selling land, and building homes. After working for General Motors for most of his life, Raymond retired in 1981. Retirement had brought many travels and adventures for him and Wilma. They purchase an RV and spent the winter months traveling to Florida, Texas, and Arizona.

Survivors include Raymond’s two daughters: Donna Cantrell and Patty King – both of Mineral Point; sister, Pearl Bradley of Mineral Point; grandson, Cory King of Mineral Point; great-granddaughter, Alexis Renee King; and also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma Cantrell; grandparents: Rev. John and Fannie Cantrell and John and Julie Cain; four siblings Eileen Martin, Lucille DeClue-Banta, David Cantrell and Arminta Wiggins.

Visitation for Raymond was held on Monday, September 6, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, September 7, 2016, beginning at 8:30 AM. A funeral service began on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Thurman officiating.

Honoring Raymond by serving as his pallbearers were Cory King, Matt Skaggs, Layne Asher, Rob Lake, Josh Cantrell, and Austin Cantrell. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Terry Drennen and Mike DeClue.

Interment and final prayers were held at the Cantrell Family Cemetery in Mineral Point. All funeral arrangements have been cared for by the DeClue Funeral Home.
