Randi Akers

August 13, 1941 — June 1, 2016

Randi Marie Akers of Potosi, Missouri passed away on June 1, 2016 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center having reached the age of seventy four years, nine months, and eighteen days. She was born on August 13, 1941, in West Plains, Missouri, a daughter to the late Ercell Rush and the late Marie (Hilliard) Rush.

On December 11, 1993, Randi was united in marriage to James “Jim” Akers.

Randi was an avid bird watcher and loved to identify the various birds that visited the bird feeder. She enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching them come and go. Her favorites though, were the hummingbirds that frequented their two hummingbird feeders. She really delighted in observing their antics as they buzzed and dived around the feeder vying for a drink.

She also loved her flower gardens. She loved them almost as much as Jim loved to “Accidently” mow them down with the push mower. Randi’s favorite flower was her roses and she was happy sitting outside looking at the yellow roses that are planted by the driveway and bloomed throughout the spring and summer.

Her beloved Dachshund, Ginger, was another one of her loves. She cherished Ginger and was devastated when she had to let her go. However, they are probably together now sharing a bowel of vegetable soup. For those of you who aren’t aware, Ginger loved a good bowel of vegetable soup. When Jim would make a pot, Randi always made certain that Ginger had a bowel of her own.

Randi was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan. She rarely missed a televised Cardinals game and knew each player by their name, number and the position they played. On game days one could find her sitting in her chair cheering them on. I can’t help but think that perhaps she had a little something to do with the four home runs and the Cardinals subsequent win in yesterday’s game.

However, the very most important thing in her life was her family. Her favorite times were being surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. Hearing them laugh and carry on gave her great joy. It was at these times when Randi was most happy.

Randi is survived by her beloved husband Jim Akers of Potosi, Missouri; three daughters: Khristyne Truax of Denver, Colorado, Vicktorya Kopf and husband Daniel of St. Louis, and Lenni Basler and husband Jim of Potosi; brother Terry Rush and wife Jacque of Lincoln, Nebraska; and seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Frankie, Jesse, Lindsey, Ryan, Tyler, and Amy.
