Phyllis Amsden

October 23, 1920 — July 24, 2016

Phyllis Amsden of Mineral Point, Missouri departed this life for a much better one on July 24, 2016 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety five years. She was born on October 23, 1920, in Black, Missouri, a daughter to the late Cluster Black and the late Martha Etta (Barton) Black.

Phyllis is survived by her son: Herbert Donald Sherrill of Potosi; two daughters: Stephania Sherrill Lee of Mineral Point and Marie Sherrill Hardman of Mexico, Missouri; step-son, James “Jim” Amsden of Hollywood, Maryland; sisters: Stacy Johnson and friend Vern Gietze of St. Louis and Mary Dement and husband Robert of Potosi; nine grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; twenty nine great-great grandchildren; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her first husband and father to three of her children, Herbert Andrew Sherrill; her second husband, Herbert Amsden; sons-in-law: John J. Hardman and Clifford Lee; daughter-in-law, Judith A. Sherrill; dear friend, Charles Newberg; brothers: Cleo Black, Oscar Black, Jaydee Black, Norman Black, and Arles Black; and sisters: Utha Shipp, Alice Ratliff, and Gertrude Trolinger.

Phyllis was a long time member of the Lesterville Baptist Church and the Lesterville Eastern Star. After moving to Potosi four years ago, she became a member of the Springtown Baptist Church in Mineral Point, and continued her Eastern Star membership in Potosi. Phyllis was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation for Phyllis was held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM. There was an Eastern Star Service held on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. Visitation resumed on Friday, July 29, 2016, beginning at 9:00 AM. A funeral service began at 11:00 AM on Friday, held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Joe Jackson officiating.

Honoring Phyllis by serving as her pallbearers were Steve Woodson, Larry Lee, Rusty Sherrill, Kevin Stone, Jerry Mason, and Jim Walls.

Interment and final prayers were held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirkwood, Missouri.
DeClue Funeral Home was privileged to care for the funeral arrangements of Ms. Phyllis during this time of remembrance.
