Philip Thomlinson

March 4, 1920 — August 10, 2013

Philip Erastus Thomlinson of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on August 10, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri having reached the age of ninety three years, five months and six days. He was born on March 4, 1920 in Middle Brook, Missouri a son to the late Houston E. Thomlinson and Ada (Savage) Thomlinson.

On March 8, 1941, Philip was united in marriage to Atha Rich and they shared sixty seven years together.

Philip served in the United States Army from July 18, 1944 to January 17, 1946. During his service, Philip received three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are two sons Ronald Thomlinson of Cadet, Houston Thomlinson and wife Karen of Potosi; grandchildren Velma Lynn Tilton, Curtis Allen Thomlinson, Brandon Thomlinson, Philip S. Thomlinson, Bradley Schutz; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his wife Atha Thomlinson, two brothers Morris Thomlinson, Rafe Thomlinson; three sisters Mary Jones, Zeonba Lorts, Murel McBroom and a great grandchild Peyton Robert Thomlinson.

Philip was a hard worker and a great provider. He directed us in God's path. Even at the age of ninety three, his family knew they could go to him for any type of advice. Philips wit and sense of humor surpassed all other. He loved to go turkey hunting and fishing. However, he went deer hunting one time with a kill and said "I don't have to go again, I know what it's like". He enjoyed gardening for many years. He took pride in what he grew.

Philip's main concern for everyone was that their souls were right with God. He loved his lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all of his heart. He lived his Christian life to the fullest all the way to the very end. Philip was a long time member of the Grassy Hollow Baptist Church. He was Ordained as a Deacon on July 28, 1996. From his two sons "Daddy was our hero. Not just because he served his country, but because he served God first, his family second". Philip will be deeply missed.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 11 AM at the Grassy Hollow Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Petete officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Brandon Thomlinson, Philip S. Thomlinson, Bradley Schutz, Gary Blair, Beauford Breakfield and Virgil Breakfield. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Bob Hollinsworth and Leo Hollingsworth.

Interment and final prayers were held at the Grassy Hollow Cemetery with full military honors presented by the United States Army and local VFW Post 6996. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
