Oral William Griggs of House Springs, Missouri passed away on July 26, 2005 at his residence, having reached the age of 84 years, 10 months and 17 days. He was born on September 9, 1920 in Indian Creek, Missouri, a son of the late Clarence Edward Griggs and Ollie Belle (Broombaugh) Griggs.
Oral was united in marriage to Zelda Alberta Merritt in Pocahontas, Arkansas and to this union nine children were born. Zelda preceded him in death on January 19, 1996.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Mitchell Griggs, Ernest Griggs and John Griggs; and three sisters, Colene Griggs, Edna Sohn and Edith McDaniel.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing from this life are his daughters Marilynn Griggs-Barton and husband Donald of House Springs, Kathy Jolliff and husband Edward of St. James, Marcia Kuepfert of Eureka, Maria Buck and husband Stewert of Barnhart, and Michelle Yates and husband Harold of Hillsboro; his sons, Donald Griggs and wife Freddy of Wildwood, Dennis Griggs and wife Lola of Desoto, Jim Griggs and wife Tammy of St. Clair, and Terry Griggs and wife Julie of Hillsboro; two brothers, Amos Griggs and wife Leona of Potosi and Kenneth Griggs and wife Lola of Posey, CA; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 AM on Monday, August 1, 2005 at the Britton Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Donald Barton, Dennis Poncet, Dave Leeker, Ricky Duff, Harold Yates and Darran Griggs.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Horine Cemetery at Richwoods, Missouri. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
