Oliver Declue

December 18, 1920 — April 14, 2007

Oliver Herman DeClue of Mineral Point, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at his residence, having reached the age of 86 years, 3 months and 27 days. He was born at Herculaneum, Missouri on December 18, 1920 and moved to Potosi at the age of two years. He was a son of Herman DeClue and Goldie (Brim) DeClue.

On June 21, 1947, Oliver was united in marriage to Beulah Hamby. They shared almost sixty years of marriage together. Oliver was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He was a delight to share time with, loved his family, his Church and fishing very much.

He went to Berryman CC Camp on January 9, 1941 and worked until July 24, 1942. He enlisted in the Army on October 14, 1942 and took his training in Van Doren, Mississippi as a Rifleman. He was sent to the front lines in France, then Germany under General Eisenhower with the 63rd Division 253rd Infantry and 7th Army with the Blood and Fire. He served there for eighteen months and was then sent to the South Pacific and was discharged on December 5, 1945. He was entitled to wear the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, 107 Lapel Button, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, 5 Overseas Bars, ASR score 73 Victory Ribbons, Awarded 2 Bronze Stars, Per WDGO-33 & 40 in 1945. Good Conduct Medal and 3 Battle Stars in Rhineland, Central Europe. After returning home, he went to work for National Lead at Cadet, Missouri, where he worked until 1978.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Hubert LeRoy ?Goober? DeClue, Sr and daughter in-law Linda (Mosier) DeClue; his daughter, Sarah DeClue; a grandson, Robert LeRoy ?Robbie? DeClue; a great-granddaughter, Erica Ann DeClue; four brothers, Marvin DeClue, Leo DeClue, Alvin DeClue, Robert William DeClue; three sisters, Georgia Hedrick, Ida Bell ?May? DeClue and Rosemary Pruitt.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life include his wife, Beulah DeClue of Mineral Point; a brother, Everett DeClue and wife Virginia of Bonne Terre; two sisters, Ruth Dean of Cadet, Bessie Nettles and husband Vernon of Potosi; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 PM, Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the Britton Chapel with Rev. George DeClue officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Goober DeClue, Brian DeClue Sr., Randy DeClue, Jerel Beck, David Jarvis and Bobby Hamby Jr.

Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
