Obie Hawkins

August 8, 1929 — April 24, 2008

Obie Earl Hawkins of Potosi, Missouri passed away on April 24, 2008 at St. Anthony?s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, having reached the age of seventy eight years, eight months and sixteen days. He was born on August 8, 1929 at St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Paul J. Hawkins and Latta (Compton) Hawkins.

In addition to his parents, Obie was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hawkins; a sister, Betty Jane Hawkins; two brothers, Ward Paul Hawkins and Stanley Hawkins.

He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He was a longtime member of the Lakewood Baptist Church of Potosi. He loved his church and his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life include his son Rodney Hawkins and wife Elaine; three daughters, Cyndi Wortman and husband Drake of Tupelo, Mississippi, Jennifer Hawkins and fiance? Josh Cantrell of Potosi, Sharon House of Potosi; three sisters, Norma Banning and husband Walter Don of Steelville, Delores Henry of Potosi, Thelma Blair and husband Don of Potosi; six grandchildren Kirsten, Sierra, Kammeron, Kortniee, Jessica and Kolten; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 10 AM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri, with Rev. Leonard Compton and Rev. Alva Enloe officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Josh Cantrell, Drake Wortman, Jay Henry, Ricky Williams, Tommy Boyster, Jimmy Witcher.

Interment and final prayers were held at Lakewood Cemetery, Potosi. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
