Norma E. Horine of Richwoods, Missouri departed this life on April 25, 2007 at Georgian Gardens Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri, having reached the age of 99 years, 8 months and 17 days. She was born at Greenville, Missouri on August 8, 1907, a daughter of the late Robert Fox and Ibba (Howell) Fox.
Norma came to Richwoods to teach school. She rode the train to DeSoto and was met by Mrs. Ben Roderique, who brought her to Richwoods. Soon after her arrival, Norma and John William Horine met and started dating. Norma took a leave from teaching and returned to Greenville, Missouri. She and John corresponded back and forth until they married on August 26, 1928, making their home in Richwoods.
She joined the Methodist Church in Richwoods and became very active in it. She taught Sunday School for many years, (mostly young children), and served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of the Richwoods Extension Club for more than 50 years and served in just about every office. She served on County Council and was President and Secretary at different times. She served as Second Vice-President of the State Board for 4 years. She served as Republican Committeewoman in the Richwoods Township for several years.
Norma and John were County Farm Bureau Members and served on the Board for many years. They represented Washington County at both State and National Meetings. Norma became Missouri Mother of the Year in 1977 and represented Missouri by attending the national meeting held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, John William Horine, who passed away June 21, 1994; a sister, Juanita Fox Davidson; a daughter, Juanita M. Horine; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Horine.
Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life include her sons, John Jack Horine and wife Betty of Warrensburg, Robert Horine and wife Elizabeth of Crestwood, Wayne Horine and wife Blythe of Devil?s Elbow; a daughter, Joyce Broombaugh and husband Sam of Richwoods; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Rev. Bruce Chamberlin officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Rob Horine, John Horine, Thomas Burns, Brian Greeson, Bobby Greeson and Brent Horine.
Interment and final prayers were held at Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
