Norma Gettinger

Norma Ruth Gettinger of Potosi, Missouri, was born on March 9, 1933 in Davis Crossing, Missouri, a daughter of the late Elmer and Hazel (Bainer) Hampton. Ruth went to her heavenly home on June 18, 2023, having reached the age of 90.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her husband of 71 years, Firmin Gettinger; children: Mary Ann Todd, Sue Payne, David Gettinger (wife, Terry), Rhonda Tallman (husband, Randy), Gary Gettinger, and Steven Gettinger (wife, Paula); 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Johnston, and Anita Hampton. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Callahan; sons-in-law, Donnie Callahan, Dusty Todd; grandson, Justin Callahan; great-great grandson, Remingten Crane; siblings: Ruby, Vernal, Twins Delmer and Elmer, Edith, Ernest, Georgia Lee, Ronald, Shelby, and Raymond; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Mabry Lee and Hettie Louise Gettinger; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Ruth was one of the sweetest ladies you could meet. The greatest thing to do in her life was to serve the Lord and reading her Bible. Ruth loved her family and always put others first. She enjoyed gospel singing's with her family. She was a wife and mother who embodied the Proverbs 31 woman. She was a good cook and always made great country meals—roast, ham and beans, and green beans. She enjoyed helping Firmin tend to the garden. Firmin first met Ruth after returning from the service, walking out of her church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 5 to 8 pm at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 11 am to 1 pm.

A Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 1 pm at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Pastor James Pashia will officiate her service, assisted by Harvey Buckley, Matt Woods, and Tony Hampton. Interment will follow at the Big River Cemetery in Irondale, Missouri.
