Myrtle Jenkins

June 25, 1922 — November 21, 2008

Myrtle Ellen Jenkins of Belgrade, Missouri, departed this life on November 21, 2008 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital having reached the age of eighty six years, four months and twenty seven days. She was born on June 25, 1922 at Graniteville, Missouri, a daughter of the late William Sago and Martha Bowen Sago.

Myrtle has always been a working mother. Holding various jobs to enable her family to enjoy a better life. This work ethic was past on to all o f her children. Myrtle?s jobs ranged from ?Powder Monkey? at the ammunition plant during WW II, bar maid, restaurant waitress, nursing home cook, and a Cub Scout Den mother in the 1950?s.

At the age forty Myrtle decided to further her education and pursue a career in nursing. After graduating in April 1965 from Lead Belt Technical School she past the Missouri Board Exam of nursing and was granted an LPN License #11093.
Myrtle worked at the local nursing homes, Washington County Memorial Hospital, and the Washington County Health Department. After retiring in 1991, she kept her license active and continued to care for people until her age affected her mobility.

Myrtle enjoyed raising plants, flowers, feeding the birds, and,crocket work while relaxing. She was a woman ahead of her time and was always and will always be our Guardian Angel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Jenkins; son, State Highway Patrolman, Roger Jenkins; step daughter Donitta Cook;brothers Lloyd Sago and Lester Sago.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life include her children, Gary Grammond and wife Judy of Arizona; Don Grammond and friend Diane of Bismarck; Doris Grammond of Farmington; Marvin Jenkins, Jr. and wife Hopie of Belgrade; Nancy Nelsonof Farmington; Dona Ringo of Belgrade; Byron Jenkins and friend Joy of Belgrade; sister Grace Stickland and husband Leon of Belgrade; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral Services were conducted on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 2 PM at the Britton Chapel with Rev. Myron Laramore officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Eric Wheelis, Chris Rawlins, Merlin Graves, Clark Smith, Levi Bailey, and Mitchel Jenkins.

Interment and final prayers were held at Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
