Michael Lindsey O’Bryan of Festus, MO, affectionately known as Mike, passed away on Sunday,January 14, 2024, in St. Louis, MO, concluding a life marked by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. Mike was born on June 29, 1949 in St. Louis, to Lawrence and Ernestine (Boulicault) O’Bryan.
Mike attended school in Hillsboro, where he graduated with the class of 1967. Mike carried the lessons and values from these early experiences throughout his life, shaping the man he would become.
Professionally, Mike's work ethic and dedication were evident from his early days working for his father’s store, O’Bryan Music and Jewelry, located in Potosi, Festus and Hillsboro and later for Union Pacific Railroad where he retired from in 2018. Mike’s personal life was enriched when he married the love of his life, Elaine Laramore on May 27, 1972, a union through which their daughter Erin was born.
A devoted husband and father, Mike adored his family and every moment spent with them. He was selfless, protective, strong, quick witted and funny. Mike’s interests were as wide-ranging as his skills. An outdoorsman at heart, he relished the time spent tending to his lawn, landscaping, or cutting wood. Mike also had a great appreciation for antique cars.
Music was an integral part of Mike's life. He was a very skilled and talented guitar player. He enjoyed giving guitar lessons as well as playing in the praise band at church. Mike received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Festus - Crystal City. Mike’s faith was the cornerstone of his life.
Those who remain to continue his legacy and cherish his memory include his wife, Elaine O’Bryan; daughter, Erin O’Bryan; sister, Charlotte MacKay; dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Sissy and Bud Coy, Donnie and Jody Laramore, Raymond and Donna Laramore, Erma and Jim Harrelson, Phyllis and Bill Long, June Laramore, and Janet Laramore. Mike also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence O'Bryan; mother, Ernestine O'Bryan Schuppan; step father, Martin Schuppan; sister, Janet Hale; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louie and Alice Laramore; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wayne Hale, Jimmy and Juanita Laramore, Mary Ann and Lester Schroer, George Laramore, Johnny Laramore, Sonny Laramore, and Melba and Nunis Jones.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Festus - Crystal City, 107 N Truman Blvd, Crystal City, MO 63019 on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10 AM until the time of his Funeral Service at 1 PM. Interment and final prayers will follow at the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Festus, Missouri.
