May Brickey of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on October 20, 2011 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of one hundred six years, three months and twenty nine days. She was born on June 21, 1905 at Huzzah, Missouri a daughter to the late Leonard Fitzwater and Sarah (Dotson) Fitzwater.
On May 16, 1923, May was united in marriage to Harry "Toots" Brickey and to this union five children were born. Harry predeceased May in 1979.
May loved to raise a garden and sew. She loved to can anything from her garden and playing piano at Lost Creek Baptist Church, which she did for many years. She loved to be a hostess and would make sure no one left her house hungry. As a young girl she loved to fish with her father. May spoke often of riding her horse and cutting wood ( actually dragging logs with a pair of mules that she had).
May was converted at an early age and was a member of the Lost Creek Baptist Church of Berryman, Missouri.
In addition to her parents and husband, May was preceded in death by a son Udean Brickey; daughter Irma Lee Brickey; two sisters Avis Blount and husband Brian Blount; Alice Eye and husband Ace Eye; brother Everett Fitzwater; brother in law Glen Gibson; Dan Brickey and wife Ola Mae Brickey; John Brickey and wife Mary Brickey; son-in- law Don Essmyer sister in law Mabel Lea and husband Preach Lea.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her son Walter (Mima) Brickey of Davisville; two daughters Louise (Ray) Free of Berryman; Loretta Essmyer of O'Fallon; sister Addie Gibson of Boone, Colorado; brother Lloyd (Mary) Fitzwater of Potosi; sister in law Doris Fitzwater of Potosi; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Bryce Wilson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bob Andrews, Kevin Michael Essmyer, Jeremiah Essmyer, Donnie Essmyer, Seth Gibson, Tracey Nash.
Interment and final prayers were held at Lost Creek Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
