Maudie Gibson

Maudie May Gibson of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on December 12, 2010 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety three years, four months and ten days. She was born on August 2, 1917 at Sprott, Missouri a daughter to the late Aught Ramsey and Laura (Bone) Ramsey.

Maudie Gibson was a woman with an amazing heart. She was filled with God’s spirit and was a lifelong member of Hopewell Assembly of God Church. Maudie and her husband Virgil lived by God’s word and together raised their family in the Christian faith. The two were united in marriage February 12, 1936 in Potosi, Mo. Together they endured many hardships, blessings and celebrations together along the way.

Not only did Maudie work diligently to raise her family but, she worked hard on keeping the family genealogy records. She had invested hours tracing her family history. However, in the spring and summer she tended to her garden. She spent countless summer’s days in the kitchen in front of her heated pressure cooker, canning food for the winter.

Unconditionally devoted to her family, Maudie spent many hours serving her family and friends that were sick and needed her assistance. She dedicated her life to helping others. She has touched countless lives along the way. Her generosity and soft smile will be greatly missed by so many.

In addition to her parents, Maudie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Virgil Gibson; daughter Ruby Gibson; son Ronald Gibson; grandson Tim Gibson; great granddaughter Misty Dawn Gibson; four sisters Myrtle Ramsey, Ernestene Barrnet, Ethel Griffin, Mary Nixon; five brothers Freeman Ramsey, Randle Ramsey, Madison Ramsey, Champ Ramsey, Charles Ramsey; two daughters in law June Gibson and Mable Gibson.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are a daughter Mary Boyer and husband Robert of Cadet; four sons Clifton Gibson and wife Bonnie of Cadet, Herbert Gibson and wife Nancy of Mineral Point, Jesse Gibson and wife Marsha of Mineral Point, Jim Gibson of Mineral Point; fourteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2 PM at the Declue Chapel with Rev. Roger Taber officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Gibson, Chris Gibson, Terry Gibson, Steve Gibson, Rick Gibson and Teddy Gibson.

Interment and final prayers were held at Hopewell Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
