Mary Portell

Mary Adlene Portell of Potosi, Missouri departed this life December 31, 2009 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety years, six months and five days. She was born on June 26, 1919 at Richwoods, Missouri a daughter to the late Lytle Jackson and Agnes Mary (Coleman) Jackson.

Mary was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with her family. She would light up with joy when they came to visit. She loved going to church and was proud when her great grandchildren served Mass. She enjoyed sewing and could make anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed planting flowers and was so proud of her rose bushes. She always had a word of wisdom and could sense if anything was wrong and then she would try to help fix it. She will be very sadly missed by all her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband George H. Portell; daughter Betty Jean Portell; son George Lee Portell; two brothers Leo Jackson, Marion Jackson and a sister Lucy Chott.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are two daughters Geraldine Heifner and husband Gerald of Potosi; Donna Littrell and husband Muril of Potosi; two sons Gary Portell and wife Debra of Tipton Indiana; Dennis Portell and wife Sandy of Cadet; eighteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; five great step grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral Mass was celebrated January 4, 2009 at 11AM at St. James Catholic Church with Father Joe Welshmeyer officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Dave Heifner, Rob Heifner, Dan Heifner, Steve Littrell, Eddie Portell, Joe Portell, Randy Portell and Jeff Portell.

Interment and final prayers were held at St. Joachim Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
