Marvin Harvey

James Marvin Harvey Sr. of Potosi, Missouri was born on August 12, 1931 in Shirley, Missouri a son to the late James Lonard Harvey and the late Ethel Zoie (Harmon) Harvey. On December 16, 1950, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Ann Dunham and one son was born to this union. On July 9, 1982, Marvin married Freeda Kline and they shared thirty-six years together.

Marvin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family having reached the age of eighty-six years, nine months and twelve days.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Freeda Harvey; two sons: Mark Kline and Gene Aleshire; one brother, Clinton Harvey and two sisters: Virgie Smalley and Marita Dicus; two brothers-in-law: Victor Smalley and Bob Dicus.

Survivors include his son, Jim (Debbie) Harvey; daughter, Donna (Fred) Ziegler; Aaron (April) Harvey, Nickie (Brad) Light, John Michael Kline and Shawnee Crocker, Donald (Kara) Kline, Kevin Ziegler, Fred (Sherri) Ziegler and Shannon (Jimmy) Bonney; thirteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verla Harvey; dear relatives: Della Weir, Dave and Annie Fenstermaker; special friends, Sonny and Vivian Halbert; also surviving are other relatives and friends.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army. He worked at Pea Ridge Mines and later began his career as a Police Officer for both the City of Potosi and County from 1968 till 1988. Marvin liked sitting with family and friends and telling stories. In past time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gigging, family dinners and riding motorcycles with his cousins. He loved his dog, Jesse who rode around with him and kept him company after his dear Freeda’s passing. Above all, Marvin loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Marvin will forever live on through the legacy he has left behind.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday, May 29, from 8:30-10 a.m. at the DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Elder Leonard Compton officiating.

Interment and final prayers will be held at Redbud Memorial Gardens. Marvin will receive full military honors consisting of flag folding and presentation, gun salute and Taps presented by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 6996.
