Marvie Jean Ward of Caledonia, Missouri departed this life on August 1, 2009 at the Mineral Area Regional Hospital having reached the age of seventy six years, four months and twenty three days. She was born on March 9, 1933 at Doniphan, Missouri a daughter to the late Walter Few and Gertrude (Rongey) Few.
Marvie was a charter member of the Ozark Heights Baptist Church. She led the singing and taught Sunday School among many other things. She loved to take her kids and grandkids to church with her. Marvie was an active member of the Cedar Lodge extension Club for many years.
Marvie sang in gospel music quartets; was a 4-H leader for many years; she was a diehard Cardinal baseball fan (she loved watching them play); she enjoyed quilting and sewing of all kinds (she has quilted each of her children and grandchildren a quilt); she enjoyed gardening and flowers; she liked watching and feeding birds and she loved collecting angels.
Marvie was a devoted wife of over twenty five years to Carl, a farmer. She was a wonderful cook and everyone enjoyed her meals. Her cookie jar was always well stocked for any grandchild who walked through her door. She enjoyed through the years traveling to different parts of the country to visit kids and grandkids. ?Ma Ward? loved her grandbabies. Nothing could light up her eyes up more than a visit from her great grandbabies. She enjoyed watching and following her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they participated in sports such as volleyball and basketball games at Valley High School as well as T-ball, soccer and softball league games. She will be dearly missed by them all, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Marvie was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Carl Ward; two brothers Daryl Few, Verne Few; three nephews George Few, Lamar Few and Johnny Few.
Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life are two sons Richard Ward and wife Phyllis of Caledonia; Freddie Ward of Perryville; two daughters Teresa Marler and husband Tim of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Greta Hochstatter and husband Joe of Caledonia; The following grandchildren and great grandchildren; Lindell (Tracey) Ward and children, Cassidy and Liam Indianapolis, IN, Calista (Chris) Evraets and children, Gabriel and Timothy of Tulsa OK, Rhianna (Nic) Woods and children, Hadlee and Elliot of Famington, MO, Andrea and Partick Murphy of Tulsa, OK, Aaron Marler of Tulsa, OK, Brittany Hochstatter of Caledonia, MO, Lora Beth Ward of Caledonia, MO; sister in law Hilde Few of Granite City, IL; Nephew Mike Few and wife Vickey of Glen Carbon, IL; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 2 PM at the DeClue Family Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton and Rev. Donnie Crocker officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Rick Ward, Fred Ward, Lindell Ward, Nic Woods, Patrick Murphy and Chris Evraets.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
