Loretta Juanita Hughes of Desoto, Missouri departed this life on June 27, 2014 at the Hillcrest Care Center having reached the age of eighty six years, two months and twenty two days. She was born on April 5, 1928 in Flat River, Missouri a daughter to the late Walter Nichols and Mabel Woolridge.
In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Hughes, two brothers Howard Nichols, Woodrow Nichols, two sisters Norma Gonigael, Jewel Pope, three grandchildren Kory Prato, Becki Yates and Christina Hughes.
Loretta known as "Granny" by most, loved the Lord with all her heart. She loved to laugh and loved her family. Being helpful to anyone was always on her mind. She was a hard worker from sun up to sun down; and made use of everything to the fullest. Her idea of "me-time" was just sitting on a big rock in the woods enjoying the nature the good Lord gave us. She knew what most were called whether it were trees or birds or flowers or animals. She was kind and sweet and modest; and would not want us bragging on her too much. She loved singing hymns though she said she sang like a frog. She was just a genuine, down to earth person you couldn't help but like.
Loretta is survived by two sons Stanley Hughes of Florida, Keith Hughes and wife Barbara of St. Clair; two daughters Lynn Yates and husband William of Richwoods, Sandra Prato and husband Harry of Foristell; brother Cletus Nichols of Viburnum; sister Peggy Edwards of Columbia; eleven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
A funeral service was conducted on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 1 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Tony Prato, A.J. Prato, Bill Yates, Josh Yates, Tyler Yates and Rod Thurman.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Redbud Memorial Gardens. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
