Lawrence Akers

May 6, 1927 — March 16, 2022

Lawrence Edward Akers was born on May 6, 1927 in Caledonia, Missouri, as one of eight children to William Henry and Edith (Huitt) Akers. Lawrence developed a strong work ethic very early in life. This led him to be the man he was today; a hard working cattleman. At the age 18, Lawrence joined the United States Army and served from January 17, 1946 to June 22, 1947. After returning home from the military, Lawrence married the love of his life, Dolores Nipper on June 9, 1951. This union was blessed with two daughters. Lawrence and Dolores were proud to operators of Akers Cattle Ranch in Belgrade.

Lawrence loved the Lord and God’s word. He served as the pastor of Hazel Creek First Church of God for many years. Lawrence was a soft hearted tender soul. He was commonly known as the “crying preacher”. Lawrence was always grateful for the blessings that God has given him, even in the hardest times of his life. In addition to his love for the Lord was the great love he had for his family especially his grand babies. Lawrence could tell the greatest stories and found joy in telling jokes. He will be greatly missed. He has left a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

On Wednesday evening, March 16, 2022 Lawrence went to be with his Lord and Savior having reached the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 10 days.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Dolores Akers; two daughters: Sharon Ives (husband, Roger), Judy Bell (husband, John); four grandchildren: Craig Ives (wife, Bonnie), Danielle Ives, Amy Stringer (husband, Dennis), and Tia Coon (husband, Brandon); 7 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; one sister, Ida Mae Mouser; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his great grandson, Cayden; six siblings: William Akers, Ken Akers, Mabel Minehard, Hattie Hall, Charlie Akers, Lester Akers; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Hurst and Ethel Nipper.
