Laverna Kay

Laverna Ann Kay of Potosi, Missouri was born on September 17, 1936 in Potosi, a daughter of the late Edwin Laverne Blount and the late Gladys Lucille (Schrum) Blount. On October 27, 1956, Laverna was united in marriage to Glennon Robert Kay and they shared nearly sixty-three years together. Laverna passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 having reached the age of eighty-three years, one month and seven days.

Laverna will be missed by her husband, Glennon Robert "Bob" Kay; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Suzanne Kay; two grandsons: Aaron Kay and Joshua Kay; sister-in-law, Norma Buxton; two uncles: Scottie Schrum and Paulie Schrum; also surviving are many dear cousins, extended family and a community of friends.

In addition to her father and mother, Laverna was preceded in death by two sisters: Wilma Trokey and Corinne Edwards; and one brother, Donald Blount.

Laverna loved her family and took great joy in her grandsons. She was a wonderful cook; no one ever left her table hungry. Laverna and Bob enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains and the National Parks. She worked for many years in the local shoe factories - Wood Heel, Brown Shoe, Trimfoot and Red Wing. Laverna also owned and operated a restaurant for several years, worked as a CNA at a nursing home, and worked at the Ben Franklin store in Potosi. She took great pride in her work and always strove to do her best. Laverna was never content to be idle, so after retiring from full-time work, she worked part-time at The Independent Journal and worked at the polls on election days. She enjoyed spending time with her niece, Carol Reed, talking with her almost daily. Laverna had a wonderful sense of humor and made many friends through the years.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 10:00 AM TO 11:00 AM at the DeClue Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Evelyn's House, 1000 N Mason Rd, Creve Coeur, MO 63141. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
