Judith Edwina Heeter, affectionately known as Judy, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on September 29, 1938, in Ironton, Missouri, Judy was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She was the beloved daughter of the late John C. Sloan and Ida Ellen (Baker) Sloan, and those early years shaped the compassionate and faith-driven woman she would become.
Judy graduated from Potosi High School with the class of 1957, where she cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. More importantly, it was during her youth that she found her deep connection to the Lord. After being saved at an early age, she celebrated her baptism on April 11, 1954, an event that marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to her faith. Judy was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Potosi, where her service in youth and bus ministry exemplified her unwavering commitment to spreading love of Jesus.
Family was Judy’s cornerstone. She was married to her loving and devoted husband, Richard Heeter, for 67 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, support, and cherished memories. Judy was a proud mother to three sons, Dennis Heeter, Glenn (Tammy) Heeter, and Brian Heeter. She cherished every moment spent with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Larry Sloan, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Apart from her deep devotion to family and faith, Judy had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved to travel and camp around the United States, creating countless happy memories with friends along the way. Her passion for reading and solving crossword puzzles kept her mind sharp and her spirit engaged. Judy was a woman of many interests, each one reflecting her joy for the simple pleasures of life.
Judy's passing is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Heeter; four sisters and three brothers; and her precious granddaughter, Jillian Leach. Though her physical presence will be missed, her spirit will remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends, a guiding light that will comfort them in times of sorrow.
The community is invited to gather in remembrance of Judy during the visitation on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday, November 4th, from 1:00 PM until the time of her funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM, all at the DeClue Funeral Home in Potosi, Missouri.
As her family and friends come together to honor her remarkable life, they will remember Judy not only for her unwavering faith and strong character but also for her boundless love and joyful spirit. Her legacy of kindness, love for the Lord, and devotion to her family will echo through the generations, forever etched in the hearts of those she touched.
