Joseph Irl Wilkerson of Potosi, Missouri, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family having reached the age of eighty four years, three months and twenty six days. He was born on September 30, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son to the late John Wilkerson and the late Artie (Roy) Wilkerson.
On February 9, 1951, Joe was united in marriage to Opal Britton and they have shared nearly sixty five years together.
Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife Opal Wilkerson of Potosi; two daughters Nancy Eisenbeis and husband John of Potosi; Connie Boatwright and husband Tim of St. Charles, Missouri; one brother Jack Wilkerson and wife Norma Jane of Potosi; five grandchildren Amy Eisenbeis of Potosi; Lisa Eisenbeis of Potosi; April Hill and husband Noah of Moore, Oklahoma; Andrew Boatwright and wife LeAllison of Atlanta, Georgia; Christopher Boatwright of Austin, Texas; three great grandchildren Britton, Karson and Max Hill; also surviving are nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his father and mother, Joe was preceded in death by one brother Wm. “Bill” Wilkerson and one sister Alice Sago.
Visitation for Joe will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and will resume on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 9:00 AM until the time of service. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Boatwright officiating, assisted by Rev. Claude Evans.
Interment and final prayers will be held at the Redbud Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri, where Joe will receive full military honors consisting of flag folding and presentation, gun salute and Taps.
