John Zettler, Sr.

November 10, 1945 — October 11, 2016

John Arthur Zettler, Sr. of Mineral Point, Missouri passed away on October 11, 2016 at his residence having reached the age of seventy years, eleven months, and one day. He was born on November 10, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son to Rita (Brown) Fincher and the late Roy Samuel Zettler.

On January 20, 1968, John was united in marriage to Joyce Marler in Stoney Point and they shared forty-eight years together.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Zettler of Mineral Point; three children: Rita Zettler, John Zettler, Jr. and wife Carla, and Naomi Lyons and husband Byron – all of Mineral Point; mother Rita Fincher of Park Hills; siblings: Larry Zettler of Mineral Point, Susie Coleman and husband Gene of Mineral Point, Joe Zettler and wife Nancy of Mineral Point, Bill Zettler and wife Belinda of Potosi, Mike Rice and wife Tammy of Potosi, Junior Fincher of Mineral Point, Jack Fincher of Potosi, and Loretta Dickinson and husband Gary of Mineral Point; nine grandchildren: Kegan Gravett and Ashley, Katie Reeve and husband Ronnie, Marisa Gravett, Taylor Heifner and Savannah, Ethan Zettler, Keri Klein, Brandon Klein, Ian Lyons, and Zackary Lyons; three great grandchildren: Ashtyn, Kaylee, and Tate; special friends: Tonya Feldman, Ben Hatcher, and Cheryl Salter; also surviving are many special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

John began his adult journey by serving his country in the Vietnam War for two years. When he returned in 1967, he married his best friend and soul mate, Joyce. Together, they had three children. He raised his children with a stern hand so they would be respectful, polite, honest, hard-working, and to understand the value of family and the dollar.

Some may call John a “Jack of all trades.” He had many occupations throughout the years, but finally retired at the Potosi R-3 School District as a custodian. He had many jobs that were hobbies which were wood working and carpentry. He also enjoyed being a member of the Bismarck VFW Hall. He also was a part of the congregation at the United Assembly of God Church in Gumbo, Missouri. If you ever knew John, you would know that he always strived for perfection in everything he did. Throughout his life he shared his love for camping and fishing with his family. One thing is for sure, John is going to be missed dearly, forever loved, and never forgotten. I promise.

In addition to his father, John is preceded in death by his brother, James Zettler; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Robert and Naomi Marler.

Visitation for John was held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a VFW Service by Post 6947 held at 6:00 PM. Visitation resumed on Friday, October 14, 2016, beginning at 9:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Rev.
