Joann Smith

December 15, 1937 — October 7, 2007

JoAnn Smith of Mineral Point, Missouri departed this life on October 7, 2007 at her residence, having reached the age of sixty-nine years, nine months and twenty two days. She was born on December 15, 1937 at Potosi, Missouri, a daughter of the late Ellsworth ?Chick? Hanson Wilson and Lora Ferrell Wilson.

JoAnn was united in marriage to Joseph H. Smith on June 9, 1955. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage together. To this union five children were born. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

She loved the Lord. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and when she became unable to attend Church, she still sent money and made crafts and cards to send with her daughters. She was a homemaker and baby sitter in her home for many children over the years. She became a CNA in her late 40?s and worked until she was unable to.

She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one was so special to her. She would help them on school projects and just spend time teaching them something to challenge them. She loved her family, and her family loved her. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer L. Wilson, Charles E. Wilson, Billy Wilson; one sister, Sandra Wilson; one great grandson, Tanis Joseph Wayne Smith; and a son-in-law, Freddie Vance, Jr.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband, Joseph Smith of Mineral Point; four daughters, Debbie Shepard of Cadet, Judy Kean of Mineral Point, Cindy Vance and husband, Ronnie of Mineral Point, Patricia Vance of Potosi; son, Wayne Smith, Mineral Point; six brothers, Richard Wilson and wife, Bobbi of Mineral Point, Larry Wilson and wife, Kathy of Cadet, Eddie Wilson and wife Jeannette of Oklahoma, Ronnie Wilson and partner Randall Twente of Potosi, Dennis Wilson and wife, Jean of O?Fallon, Mike Wilson of Potosi; two sisters, Mary Lou Marler and husband, Bill of Mineral Point, Marie Barron and husband Virgil of Mineral Point; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at 10 AM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Rev. Robert Thurman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Shepard, Jason Shepard, Lynn Kean, Dusty Vance, Chris Smith, Jared Smith, Ronnie Vance, Jr., Josh Vance, Cody Vance, Trevor Kean, and Justin Lashley.

Interment and final prayers were held at Red Bud Memorial Gardens. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
