JoAnn Missey of Mineral Point, Missouri departed this life on January 23, 2014 at her residence having reached the age of eighty years, four months and twenty seven days. She was born on August 27, 1933 in Seminol, Oklahoma a daughter to the late Charles Snowden and Geretta (Barnwell) Snowden.
JoAnn lived in Oklahoma until she was twelve years old. Her parents then moved to California where her dad was employed in civil service on a marine base. She was an excellent straight A student in High School.
After her graduation, JoAnn was united in marriage to Lawrence Missey, who was a marine stationed on the base, on September 8, 1951 and they shared sixty two years together.
JoAnn took a job in civil service and retired with thirty years. Her last job was at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christy Texas.
JoAnn handled the budget for six naval stations in Texas, Florida and Mississippi. She was awarded a special award every year.
She loved to travel and so she and Lawrence traveled to many places including Africa, Australia, Brazil and other South America countries. They made several ocean cruises thru Panama Canal and to Alaska. They made motor home trips in the USA and visited every state but one and that was Rhoda Island. They missed that because they got the wrong information from a travel company. They finally settled in Missouri and lived for the last thirteen years.
JoAnn was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church and Eastern Star of Corpus Christi Texas.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Missey of Mineral Point; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by one son David Missey who died with Melanoma Cancer in 2000.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1 Pm at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Mark Wilkinson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Stan Drennen, Kenny Drennen, Rick Drennen, Bryan Christopher, Vince Price, Ricky Drennen, Ron Price, Wesley Kean and Lloyd Kean .
Interment and final prayers were held at the New Diggins Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
