Jimmy Dean Wilkerson, of Potosi, Missouri, was born on September 11, 1953 in Washington County. Jim was one of three children to the late George and Norma Lee (King) Reed. Jim passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 23, 2024 at his home at the age of 71.
Those who remain to treasure Jim’s memory include his wife, Joyce (nee: Benson) Wilkerson; his five children: Jason Wilkerson and (fiancé, Melissa Maness), Amy (Lowell) Turner, Brian (Linda) Moore, April (Cory) Winters, Janelle Wilkerson and Mike Thompson. Jim will also be missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved so much, and a new great grand baby coming in October. In addition, Jim is survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members; and a special friend and caring neighbor, Allie Callahan.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents George and Norma Lee Reed; sister, Gracie Marie Reed; brother, Gene Wilkerson; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Isaac and Effie Benson; and many other dear relatives.
Jim was raised in Palmer, Missouri, just up from the Palmer Church. Jim often told stories from his childhood. In fact, Jim always had a story or a joke to tell. He had a great sense of humor and loved to have fun. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping at Palmer with his family. Jim loved being outdoors and most recently, he enjoyed just simply sitting on his porch. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 5 to 8 pm at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Saturday, September 28th, from 9 am until the time of his Funeral Service at 11 am, held in the DeClue Chapel. Pastor Matt Woods will be officiating. Interment and final prayers will follow at the Grassy Hollow Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
