James Harry Thompson of Cadet, Missouri passed away on September 6, 2015 at the St. Louis University Hospital having reached the age of eighty years, two months, and twenty two days. He was born on June 15, 1935 in Washington County to the late Oren and Blanche (Schrum) Thompson.
On August 21, 2004, James was united in marriage to Diana (Freeman) Thompson and shared eleven years together.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his beloved wife Diana Thompson of Festus, Missouri; four children: Lonnie Thompson of Potosi, Missouri, Theresa Thompson and Dennis Farris of Potosi, Missouri, Debbie Eckhoff of Potosi, Missouri, and Jamie Eaves of Potosi, Missouri; five step-grandchildren: Don Kochera and wife Chris of Imperial, Missouri, Bob Kochera and wife Chris of Afton, Missouri, David Freeman and wife Chrissy of Barnhart, Missouri, Donna Freeman of Festus, Missouri, and Kim Johner of Festus, Missouri; two brothers: Leo Thompson of Potosi, Missouri and Terry Thompson and wife Sharon of Cadet, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his daughter Janet Boyer; two brothers: Junior Thompson and Thomas Larry Thompson; son-in-law Christopher Eaves; grandson Michael Boyer; and nephew Timmy Thompson.
James was a big-hearted, hardworking man. He sure lived life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family, especially if there was some fish frying and guitar picking. He was definitely an outdoors man. He loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He also loved planting a big ‘ole garden and enjoying its bounty. He also loved to sit around and talk about the good ‘ole days. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, and grandpa. He will be missed dearly. This is not “goodbye,” but only “see ya later.”
Visitation for James was held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 4:30 - 8:00 PM. A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton officiating.
Honoring James by serving as his pallbearers were Bryan Thompson, Michael Thompson, Dennis Farris, Allen Maxwell, Lonnie Eckhoff, and Donnie Eckhoff.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. All funeral arrangements were cared for by the DeClue Funeral Home.
