James Gibson

March 3, 1917 — September 21, 2005

James Clarence Gibson of Potosi, Missouri, departed this life on September 21, 2005 at his residence, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was born on March 3, 1917 at Bonne Terre, Missouri, a son of the Late Charles Gibson and Rilla Anderson Gibson.

Clarence was a member of the Potosi First Assembly of God and a Charter Member of Washington County Memorial VFW Post 6996. He was proud to have served his country in World War II at New Guinea, Luzon and the South Philippines. During his service he was awarded the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Virgil Gibson and Ernest Gibson, four sisters Bernice Gibson, Edna Gibson, Mabel Pyles and Dorothy Arndt.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving and devoted wife Goldie Gibson of Potosi, one daughter Nancy Hill and Husband Bob of Ironton, his grandsons; Scott and wife Sheila of Wildwood, Bobby and wife Karen of Boomington, IL., and Michael and wife Mary of Desloge. brother Herman Gibson of St. Clair, one sister Jean Weirick and husband Mike of Gerald, five great grandchildren, Brendan, Jessica, Christopher, Amber and Isabel Hill, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him..

Funeral services were conducted at 10 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Britton Chapel, with Rev. Curtis Bill Warren officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Ron Paul, Eugene Gibson, Jon Boyer, Darrell Arndt, William Heddy and Norman Gibson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Don Mc Courtney, Bob Pyatt, Dave Holschen, Lawrence Scott and Bill Hawkins.

Interment was in Redbud Memorial Gardens, with all arrangements entrusted to the care of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
