Iva Henry

May 23, 1941 — December 3, 2010

Iva May (Politte) Henry was born May 23, 1941 in Mineral Point, Missouri, a daughter of the late Charles (Jack) Emmitt and Nora Kathleen (Wade) Politte. After a miraculous 18 month fight with pancreas cancer, she peacefully made her journey to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, December 3, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.

Iva was united in marriage to Alvin Henry on December 8, 1960 at her parents house in Hopewell, Missouri. This union was blessed with three children.

Iva is survived by her devoted and loving husband of nearly fifty-one years, Alvin Henry of Potosi, MO; two sons, Nicky Dwane (April) Henry, Stoney Point, MO, Timmy Alvin Henry of Potosi, MO; one daughter Julie Kathleen (Christopher) Warden, Irondale, MO; eight grandchildren Kristy May Henry, Tiffany Lynn (John) Cosby, Nicky Dwane Henry, II, Timmy Alvin Henry, II all of Potosi, MO Ethan Lane, Jack Harold, Emmalou Rose and Nora Jane Henry, all of Stoney Point, MO; three great grandchildren Elijah David Cosby, Austyn Paige and DaKota Griffin; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Iva was preceded in death by her best friend and sister, Joyce Delight Lawson and a daughter in law Teri Lynn Henry.

Iva was a life long member of Hopewell Church of God. She devoted her life to her family and church. Through out her life she was a YWEA leader, V.B.S. leader, Ladies Ministries Vice-President and her most recent was a Sunday School Teacher, along with any other role that needed filled. She also sang, played piano and guitar, preached and wrote Christmas Plays for the Ladies Banquets and Kids for the King Sunday School Class. She spent countless hours cleaning, cooking, helping with bake sales, dinners and fundraisers for the church. For several years, her goal was to work toward the construction of a new church. It was a dream come true for her from the moment they broke ground. She and her husband, alongside many others, worked to see the first church service.

Iva shared a happy childhood with her sister Joyce. They spent a lot of time outdoors and helping their father in the woods. Some of her best childhood memories were made at Clear Creek.

Iva and Alvin were childhood friends. After their union, they built a strong and loving family. One of their greatest pleasures was family. She enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She also enjoyed taking drives and riding four wheelers with her husband.

She worked at Brown Shoe Factory, was a headstart bus driver and worked various jobs around the holidays. She retired from Wal-Mart in 2002, after 11 years of service, so she could spend time with her family, devote more time to her church and ride four wheelers with her husband.

Iva was a kind, caring and unselfish person. Her church and her family were her foremost priority. No matter where she was or what she was doing, she always mentioned Jesus and invited people to church. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her many family and friends.
