Howard Leroy Volner of Mineral Point, Missouri passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at home, having reached the age of 78 years, 11 months and 9 days. He was born on March 8, 1929 at Lesterville, Missouri to the late Herbert and Cletta (Alley) Volner.
Howard was united in marriage to Hilda Shearin on November 22, 1947 at Potosi, Missouri, and to this union three children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Volner; a sister, Alberta Doss; a brother-in-law, Carl Saunders; a niece, Nancy Saunders; and two nephews, Charles Saunders and James Lahmann.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing from this life are his wife, Hilda Volner of Mineral Point; two daughters, Margaret McEwen and husband, Gerald of Potosi, Barbara Anderson of Fredericktown; a son, Larry Volner and wife, Sandy of Mineral Point; five grandchildren, Daniel McEwen of Potosi, Matthew McEwen and wife, Laurie of Caledonia, Jared Volner and wife, Sarah of Potosi, Hilary Wade and husband, Chris of Cape Girardeau and DeAnna Anderson of Fredericktown; great grandchildren, Harley and Jonathan McEwen, Kristen McEwen and Madisson and Devon Volner; sisters, Francis Cooper and husband, Lowell (Bud) of Potosi, Lavera Saunders of Potosi; brothers, Elmer Volner and wife, Gladys of Potosi, Bobby Volner and wife, Norma of Potosi, Charles Volner and wife, Lealla of Arnold, Billy Volner of Republic, Jack Volner and wife, Jane of Brighton, TN, Michael Volner and wife, Angela of Mineral Point; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives.
Howard retired from Brown Shoe Company after forty-six years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and served as a Deacon for thirty- four years and he received special recognition for the building of the church parsonage. He also was very capable of performing various tasks regardless of the type of work needed to be done.
Among the many things in life that Howard loved so much, he was an avid deer and turkey hunter. His love for the outdoors and the little farm in Mineral Point (which he missed tremendously during his illness) were his favorite past times. Howard also never missed the opportunity to go fishing with anyone who would join him.
Howard cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He led a fulfilling and eventful life and will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 2 PM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Rev. Ray Thurman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Doss, Gary Doss, Jerry Doss, Alan Volner, Jeff Volner and bruce Volner.
Interment and final prayers were held at Redbud Memorial Gardens. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
