Herbert Smith

Herbert Edward Smith of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on February 2, 2010 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of seventy nine years, eleven months and fifteen days. He was born on February 18, 1930 at Potosi, Missouri a son to the late Wesley Smith and Hattie (Moss) Smith.

Herbert was a member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge. His first love was trucking and moving freight. Being on the road was where he found his peace. His favorite music was songs about trucking. He enjoyed his family and loved sharing all his trucking adventures with them. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing with them. He had many friends that would reminisce with about the old days of logging. Herbert was a very hard working loyal man. May all the work he has done speak for him.

In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Laura (Yarbrough) Smith; three brothers Melvin Smith, Lawrence ?Shorty? Smith, Jesse Smith; three sisters Rosie Harris, Mildred Smith and Helen ?Tad? Eugea.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life are two sons Lewis Smith and wife Tammy of Cadet; Jim Smith and wife Jodie of Potosi; two sisters Shirley Burkeen and husband Roy of Cordelle, Oklahoma; Jenny Burkeen and husband Jimmy of Cadet; ex-wife Barbara Chandler; eight grandchildren Brandon Smith, Abby Gibson, Kyle Smith, Chad Smith, Michael Isbell, Raqel Isbell, Kayla Isbell, Paige Isbell; five great grandchildren Kobe Gibson, Blake Gibson, Braylyn Smith, Brayden Burns, Landon Isbell; four step children; special friend Donnie Reando ?Sugar Daddy?; many other friends and relatives who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 6 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton officiating.

All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
