Saturday, September 8, 2012 heaven rejoiced to receive Heber Hardy to dwell in the Presence of God and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be reunited with his precious wife Popie. He had reached the age of ninety eight years, five months and two days. Heber loved God, and he loved people. He never met a stranger. His standard greeting was "I'm Heber Hardy, a Christian by grace and a Baptist by choice. Do you know Jesus as your Savior?"
His head was full of hundreds of poems and songs. His heart was full of laughter. He was sincerely interested in every one he met. His back bent. His feet stumbled. His eyes dimmed. His hearing waned. But his delight with life and his love of God, family and nature never diminished. At the age of ninety-eight, he would climb on his four-wheeler, drive to the edge of the woods and turn his dogs loose to find a "bunny" as he enjoyed the beauty of sky and forest.
His son and daughter will forever be blessed by having him for a daddy. He leaves behind a daughter, Beverly McColloch and husband John of Potosi; a son Mark Hardy and wife Dorothy of Park Hills; grandchildren Shawnee Douglas and husband Jesse of Potosi, John Matt McColloch and wife Sally of Salem, Luke Hardy and wife Christal of Park Hills, and Leigh Kalista and husband Donnie of St. Louis. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and a cherished friend, Jamie Kanan who lovingly took care of both him and Popie in their final days on this earth. Heber will be missed by a host of treasured family and friends.
In addition to his parents, and his wife Popie, Heber was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Lore, Myra Pratt, Lucille Hardy, and five brothers Ched Hardy, Bob Hardy, Georgie Hardy, Paul Hardy and Jack Hardy.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11 AM at the Potosi Southern Baptist Church with Rev. H. Wayne Isgrigg officiating. Serving as pallbearers were John Matt McColloch, Luke Hardy, Jesse Douglas, Ed Hedgecorth, Roger Summers and Danny Skaggs.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Big River Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
